Master Woodworker Edward Wohl is known for its masterful design, seamless joinery and liquid-smooth finish. He has designed a variety of limited-production pieces including blanket chests, stools, benches and coffee tables and an extensive line of bird's-eye maple cutting boards, which are sold in shops and galleries worldwide.

With his family, Edward has made his home and workplace among the pastoral hills and valleys of southwestern Wisconsin since 1970.

Hard maple is the obvious choice for our cutting boards both for practical and aesthetic reasons. It's extremely durable, and wears slowly and evenly. Craftsmen consider it highly "workable" – a pleasure to cut, shape and finish with precision. And it's a very stable wood, which means that it resists warping, cracking, swelling and splitting due to the stresses of temperature and humidity. With maple, we can achieve exactly the shapes we want, and be assured they'll stay that way.

Because of its high density and fine, even grain, hard maple resists marring from knife cuts, and absorbs relatively little moisture from food. It also provides a pleasing finish — a smooth, even surface with an attractive luster. This is important to us, as we work to achieve a finish that is virtually liquid in its smoothness.

Made from bird's-eye maple, which exhibits a pattern of hundreds of small oval figures resembling bird's eyes. Only one in perhaps 500 hard maple trees will exhibit this pattern, and experts are uncertain why it occurs. It may result from a fungus, or particular stresses on the growing tree. Because bird's-eye maple varies tremendously in color and pattern, we create each cutting board from custom-matched sections selected from a single piece of wood. This gives each board its distinctive appearance.

We cannot guarantee a perfect match to the image at any time, be this in pattern or colour. We do not refund orders based on wood variations from this range.

All of our stocked items are shipped on a 48 hour tracked service within the UK. 

World wide shipping is fully tracked and delivery times are dependant on available services. 

International customers will be liable to pay customs and duties once your order reaches your country's border.

All lead times quoted are for delivery to mainland UK, if ordering outside of this area there will be an additional transit time relevant to your destination.

US customers will be subject to additional tariffs as well as import duties and tax. Our team will be in touch after your order has been placed to confirm the individual tariff rates for each item. Orders will not be processed until you have confirmed that you accept the tariff rates and give consent for the order to be shipped.

Our returns policy lasts for 14 days. If 14 days have gone by since your purchase has been delivered, unfortunately we cannot offer you a refund or exchange.

Goods / Returns must be received to Dyke & Dean within 14 days of being delivered to you. If Goods / Returns are received after this we will not issue a refund. Notification to our office of your return via telephone, email, fax and or letter within 14 days does not mean a refund will be given. A refund will only be reviewed if the Goods / Returns are received within 14 days to our possession.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. Customers are responsible for the delivery costs of returning the goods. 

Bespoke/Made to order products, cut lengths of fabric cable under 100m and Outlet items are non-returnable.
